I make peace with the past by fabricating my interdisciplinary work that balances fine art and journalism. My practice encompasses photography, text, mixed media, and installation, focusing on cultural amnesia and religious fanaticism.
I produce objects rich in religious symbolism through a contemporary approach of installation that redefines ‘religious art’ through non-traditional materials such as Bible pages and anointing oil. Self-portraiture is central to my practice, providing an allegorical quality to my photographs and conjuring a visual poetic epic by casting myself as the central character. They have an aura and echo ethics from Francesca Woodman’s practice in many ways. Finally, I embark on performative explorations, introducing the mediums and photographic viewpoints to each other, resulting in a wholly intertwined piece between persona and material.
My journalistic practice focuses on long-format photo essays highlighting Puerto Rico’s colonial historical narrative and the loss of native/traditional practices due to cultural amnesia.
