As a Costa Rican printmaker, I explore social and economic inequality, individual well-being, and the intersection of art and society. Inspired by the wealth gap in my childhood neighborhood, I focus on portraying street life in San José, highlighting the struggles of those in informal jobs. Through my art, I foreground the economic hardships faced by the less fortunate in our increasingly unequal society.

Examining the divide between the rich and the poor, I trace its roots to Latin America’s colonial history. I shed light on Costa Rica’s working class burdened by corrupt politicians and corporations, contrasting their reality with media depictions of an unattainable lifestyle.

In my practice, I push the boundaries of printmaking by incorporating collage, painting, and weaving, exploring the multiplicity of print media. My work serves as a platform for reflecting on social inequality, well-being, and art’s societal role. Through various sizes and formats, including installations, I strive to inspire viewers to reflect on their experiences. Ultimately, I aim to contribute to a more equitable society that values the dignity of all individuals, regardless of their social or economic standing.
