In my series of works “On the Map,” I highlight the importance of the contribution the immigrants have made in the culture, identity and development of the United States. The complexity of the immigration phenomenon involves many layers and edges. While exploring those different aspects through variety of topics and media experimentation, I have realized that Death is one of the necessary components, which I had to include in that process – not as just a physical and organic fact, but in its psychological, spiritual, social, cultural and family context. I am addressing this in my sub-series called “Craniums,” which is implicitly a part of the “On the Map” works but, could be as well viewed independently. The images of the sculls, constituting the series in their different perspectives and angles, are made up of countless, small faces – the agglomeration of despair, anguish and cry. One can also see the presence of the incorporated, occasional silhouette of houses, elements of nature and cultural trails – lost and forgotten.
